Abstract

सारांश

विश्वभर के ग्रामीण समाजों में पौधों का सांस्कृतिक एवं धार्मिक दृष्टि से विशेष महत्व है। प्रस्तुत अध्ययन का उद्देश्य हिमाचल प्रदेश के किन्नौर जनपद की भाबा घाटी में निवास करने वाले स्वदेशी समुदायों द्वारा पवित्र पौधों के सांस्कृतिक महत्वत था उनके नृवंश-वनस्पति (एथ्नोबॉटैनिकल) उपयोगों का दस्तावेजीकरण एवं मूल्यांकन करना था। नृवंश-वनस्पति संबंधी जानकारी अर्ध-संरचित प्रश्नावली तथा मुक्त-समाप्ति साक्षात्कारों के माध्यम से 30 स्थानीय सूचनादाताओं से एकत्रित की गई, जिनमें अधिकांश औपचारिक शिक्षा से वंचित वृद्धजन थे। अध्ययन क्षेत्र से 17 कुलों से संबंधित कुल 27 पादप प्रजातियों का अभिलेखन किया गया। इनमें रोजेसी (5 प्रजातियाँ) सर्वाधिक प्रमुख कुल रहा, इसके पश्चात पो ए सी (3 प्रजातियाँ), जबकि पिनेसी, पॉलीगोनेसी, एपिएसीतथाएस्टरेसी में प्रत्येक से 2 प्रजातियाँ दर्ज की गईं। पादपजीवन-रूपों में शाकीय प्रजातियाँ सर्वाधिक (14) थीं, जिनके बाद वृक्ष (7), झाड़ियाँ (5) तथा आरोही पौधा (1) का स्थान रहा। उपयोग किए जाने वाले पादप भागों में बीजों का सर्वाधिक उपयोग (37.03%) दर्ज किया गया, इसके बाद पुष्प (25.93%), पत्तियाँ (18.52%) तथा फल (14.81%) का स्थान रहा। सांस्कृतिक महत्व सूचकांक (Cultural Importance Index; CI) के आधार पर Amaranthus caudatus L., Juglans regia L. तथा Saussurea obvallata (DC.) Sch.Bip. सर्वाधिक महत्वपूर्ण प्रजातियाँ रहीं, जिनका CI मान 1.46 दर्ज किया गया। यह अध्ययन भाबा घाटी में परंपरागतरूप से महत्वपूर्ण पवित्र पादपप्रजातियों की समृद्ध सांस्कृतिक विरासत को रेखांकित करता है तथा भावी पीढ़ियों के लिए इन पारंपरिक ज्ञान प्रणालियों एवं सांस्कृतिक प्रथाओं के संरक्षण हेतु उनके व्यापक प्रलेखन और संरक्षण की आवश्यकता पर बल देता है.

 

Abstract

Plants hold significant cultural and religious importance in rural societies worldwide. The present study aimed to explore the cultural significance and ethnobotanical importance of sacred plants use among indigenous communities of Bhaba valley in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, India. Ethnobotanical insights were collected through semi-structured questionnaires and open-ended interviews with 30 local informants, primarily elderly individuals without formal education. A total of 27 plant species belonging to 17 families were documented from the studied area, with most dominating family Rosaceae (5 species), Poaceae (3 species), Pinaceae, Polygonaceae, Apiaceae and Asteraceae (2 species each).Among plant habits, the herbs were predominant (14 species), followed by trees (7 species), shrubs (5 species) and climber (1). Seeds were the most commonly used plant parts (37.03%), followed by flowers (25.93%), leaves (18.52%) and fruits (14.81%). Notably, Amaranthus caudatus L., Juglans regia L. and Saussurea obvallata (DC.) Sch. Bip. were the most significant species, each exhibiting a Cultural Importance Index (CI) of 1.46. The study emphasizes the intricate richness of traditionally significant sacred plant species within the area, thus highlighting the vital need for their conservation through comprehensive documentation to ensure the sustenance of these customs for posterity.
