Focus and Scope

Started in 1972, this multidisciplinary, online, open access, monthly, peer-reviewed journal publishes original research articles, review articles and short communications. The Indian Journal of Geo-Marine Sciences (Indian J Geo-Mar Sci; IJMS) is devoted to the publication of various facets of research in Marine sciences, viz.

  • Physical oceanography, including hydrodynamics, climate change, satellite oceanography, etc.
  • Chemical oceanography, including biogeochemical cycles, marine pollution, etc.
  • Biological oceanography, including aquatic biology, ecology, fisheries, biodiversity & systematics, etc.
  • Geological oceanography, including geochemistry, micropalaeontology, marine archaeology, marine geotechnics, etc.
  • Marine instrumentation/engineering, naval architecture, etc.

Therefore, manuscripts of general significance to marine sciences which are written clearly and well organized according to the IJMS manuscript preparation and submission guidelines will be given preference.

Peer Review Process

All submissions in IJMS undergo a rigorous peer-review process to maintain a high quality publication. All submitted manuscripts are treated as confidential documents and are reviewed by a double-blind peer-review process, which may take a maximum of 6-12 weeks from the date of submission. Submitted manuscripts are usually referred to 3-4 subject experts (reviewers). Only critical reviews are considered for effective evaluation and decision-making. Manuscripts that are recommended for publication after a minimum of two critical peer-reviews are processed further. The rest are returned with relevant reports. All publication-related decisions are made by the journal Editor on the basis of the referees’/reviewers’ reports. In addition, the Editor will have the option of seeking additional reviews, if required in decision-making.

CSIR-NIScPR Policy on Plagiarism

The system of formal communication in science through publication in primary journals is based on originality and quality of information being the only criteria for publication. However, there have been tendencies to misuse the system and vitiate the process of scientific communication for personal benefits. One of the ills afflicting science communication is plagiarism. Attempts at plagiarism may range from verbatim, copying of extensive material of other authors, misappropriating results/data of others with minor changes in language/presentation without giving credit to the original source, publishing essentially the same information more than once, etc. The publisher/journal does not allow self-plagiarism, either.

As the premier publisher in India of primary scientific journals in various disciplines of science and technology, CSIR-NIScPR strongly reiterates its policy of discouraging plagiarism of all kinds. All efforts are made to detect and frustrate attempts at plagiarism through editorial screening, professional plagiarism checker and rigorous peer-review in respect of communications received for publication in CSIR-NIScPR publications. If plagiarism is detected at any of the stages of manuscript processing, the manuscript will be returned summarily. Hence, cooperation of the scientific community is sought in our efforts to frustrate all attempts at plagiarism.

Additionally, in case any instance of plagiarism in the published articles is brought to our attention accompanied with convincing evidence, the following steps would be taken:

(a) After consulting the respective Editorial Board Members, authors guilty of plagiarism will be debarred from publishing their papers in CSIR-NIScPR journals;

(b) Heads of the departments/institutes of the offending authors will be intimated of such incidences of plagiarism; and

(c) Such incidents of plagiarism will be publicized through the concerned CSIR-NIScPR journals in consultation with the respective Editorial Board Members.
