Abstract

The main objective of this study was to develop ecofriendly and stable silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) with antimicrobial potential. AgNPs were synthesized using Sphingobacterium multivorum supernatant and characterized by UV-Visible spectrophotometric analysis, X-Ray Diffraction analysis, Transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared and Dynamic Light scattering. Biosynthesized AgNPs exhibited broad spectrum antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Minimum inhibitory concentration was detected 19.5 µg for E. coli and S. aureus. AgNPs have exhibited significant synergistic effect with all the selected antibiotics. The present study demonstrated  a rapid, economic and ecofriendly method for the synthesis of stable AgNPs and further evaluation of the antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
