Abstract

This paper presents the comparison performance of eight channels of DWDM optical transmission system proposed for various data rates 10Gbs, 20Gbs, 30Gbs, and 40 Gbs respectively. In the first study of simulation, we have considered a fixed optical transmission length at 100 km (of SMF) and 20.93 km (of DCF). And in the second study of simulation, we have varied the optical transmission length from 100 km to 220 km respectively. It is known, the main factors limiting to transmit high speed data and aim to reached long-haul distance are the chromatic dispersion, attenuation, and non-linearities.

To overcome these impairments many studies suggested techniques namely the dispersion chromatic fiber (DCF) and fiber bragg grating (FBG). The combination of these techniques together in optical channel transmission which is called hybrid DCF-FBG dispersion compensation approach applied in this work as post-compensation or the components are integrated after optical fiber. Furthermore, integrated the Erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) in order to upgrade optical system capacity to reach transmission distance up to 200 km and transmission data rate up to 40 Gb/s. Eye diagram, Maximum signal quality factor (Q), minimum bit error rate (BER) are the major interesting performance parameters for measuring the efficiency of the DWDM system proposed with DCF module only and with hybrid DCF-FBG module. It is observed that a significant enhancement is obtained in performance measured by using hybrid DCF-FBG compared to using the DCF alone for the four data rates simulated. For data rate 40 Gbs (and in 100 km of SMF), the Q-factor found was 16.97 (BER = 5.955e-65) in hybrid DCF-FBG compared to the Q-factor 14.76 (BER = 1.191e-49) provided in the DCF technique. About the optimized optical fiber transmission length in 40 Gbs transmitted data was 170 km for applied hybrid DCF-FBG. And, as comparison with reported previously works, the results of two optical proposed design system outperforms clearly the results of the previouly published works as will presented in the section simulation results.
