Abstract

This paper presents, an Ultra-Wide Band CB-CPW based planar antenna design for biomedical applications. The proposed low-profile antenna boasts a compact size, measuring 66 × 52 × 1.57 mm3. Here, a comparative analysis is performed of designed antenna with and without the CB-CPW technique. The designed antenna operates at resonance frequencies of 1.9 GHz and 5.37 GHz. It exhibits significant bandwidth from 1.6 to 6GHz. The gain of designed antenna is 2.8 dBi and 4.8 dBi at 2.45 GHz and 5.78 GHz respectively. Here, the designed UWB planar antenna is simulated using CST MWS and the results are verified experimentally. The antenna with CB-CPW technique demonstrates efficiency of 88.2% at 2.45 GHz and 78% at 5.8 GHz. The designed antenna is simulated with body phantom and also against the structural deformation (Bending).The antenna simulated and the experimental results demonstrate the efficacious performance of the designed antenna, even when subjected to structural deformation like bending. SAR analysis of the designed antenna has been simulated with HUGO human body model of VOXEL family using CST MWS software.  Moreover, designed antenna indicate a significant low specific absorption rate (SAR) value with in the IEEE and FCC guidelines. The proposed antenna has low profile, compact size, low SAR, negligible backward radiation, broad bandwidth and high gain, position it as an excellent choice for BAN biomedical applications.

  • Munna Khan, Jamia Millia Islamia

    Prof. Munna Khan passed B. Tech. and M. Tech. in Electronics & Communication
    Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh in 1989 and 1993, respectively. Prof
    Khan received his Ph.D. degree in the research field of healthcare from Indian Institute of
    Technology (IIT) Delhi on Jan 04, 2002.
    Dr. Munna Khan has been working as a Professor at Electrical Engineering Department
    (EED), Jamia Millia Islamia (Central University), New Delhi, India from 2011 to till date and
    was head of the department from 15 May 2020 to 15 May 2023. Prof Munna Khan has also
    worked as a Director of Mewat Engineering College, Palla, Nuh, Haryana, India from 2009 to
    2011 on government deputation.
    Earlier to Director, Prof Khan worked as an Assistant Professor at Department of Electronics
    and Communication Engineering, IIT Guwahati from 2004 to 2005. Dr Khan also worked as
    visiting Professor during May to June of 2012, 2011, 2009, 2007 and Assistant Professor
    during May to July 2004, 2005 at Wright State University, Dayton, OH, USA.
    Dr Khan has published more than 225 research papers [ 94 - International/National journals
    and 132-conferences]. Dr Khan guided 17 Ph.D. thesis (Awarded), and 3 Ph.D. scholars are
    working under him. Dr. Khan has 8 patents [5-patents granted and 3 published]. The 3
    innovative technologies/ products developed are prototype development of biofeedback
    controller, A PLC controlled Anti-G Suit, and psychoacoustic Device. Dr Khan has had various
    special assignments such as Research Consultant for R & D Project of US Air Force,
    Evaluation of R&D project of ICMR for Indo-UK program, and a reviewer for
    International/National journals. Dr Khan also selected as one of Speed Mentoring Mentors for
    learner participants during 2017, 2018, and 2019 at Annual Scientific Meeting of Aerospace
    Medical Association, USA.
    Dr. Khan has held various administrative as well as academic positions and developed various
    laboratories with their manuals. He has delivered many expert lectures/ invited talks at
    International and National levels. He has completed 4 R & D projects from Defence Research
    and Development Organization (DRDO), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE),
    and Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India.

  • Zaheeruddin, Jamia Millia Islamia

    Zaheeruddin served the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of
    Engineering & Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia (A Central University), New
    Delhi, India as Professor since 2003. He was Head of the Department of
    Electrical Engineering from 2011 to 2014. He joined the Department as a
    Lecturer from the very beginning of its establishment in 1986 and served the
    same Department as Associate Professor and Assistant Professor before 2003. He
    retired on December 31, 2023.
    He received the B. Sc. Engg. Degree in Electrical and M. Sc. Engg. Degree in
    Electronics & Communication from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh (UP) in 1982 and
    1988 respectively and a Ph. D. Degree in Computer Science and Technology from Jawaharlal
    Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi in 2002.
    He was Visiting Researcher at the University of Missouri-Columbia, USA in 2003. He received
    Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Visiting Fellowship Award for the year 2004-05 to work
    with Prof. N. R. Pal in Computational Intelligence Lab. at Indian Statistical Institute Kolkata, India.
    Prof. Zaheeruddin is a Fellow of IETE (India) and Life Member of World Federation of Soft
    Computing (U.S.A.), The Institution of Engineers (IE, India), Computer Society of India (CSI),
    Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), The Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA),
    and Indian Chapter of The International Centre for Theoretical Physics (Indian Chapter of ICTP).
    Zaheeruddin has published One Hundred Twenty-Seven (127) research papers in International
    Journals and Conferences in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, IoT, Soft Computing, Noise
    Pollution, Wireless Sensor Networks, Optimization Techniques, and Smart Grid. He is Reviewer of
    many International journals of IEEE, Elsevier, Springer, and ACTA Press etc.
