Abstract

In this work, a chemical reaction technique is employed to synthesize CdSe nanoparticles and CdSe/ZnO nanocomposites. The synthesized samples have been characterized by different characterization techniques. Study of selectivity of the synthesized samples towards different gases such as ammonia, acetone, methanol, formaldehyde and ethanol has been carried out. The synthesized CdSe and CdSe/ZnO samples are found to be more selective towards methanol gas. As such, gas sensing ability of both CdSe and CdSe/ZnO samples towards methanol gas has been investigated. It is observed that, CdSe/ZnO nanocomposites are more sensitive towards methanol gas as compared to CdSe nanoparticles.
