Copyright helps libraries with dissemination of knowledge from creative works within restrictive domains. Libraries aim to distribute knowledge from creative works and toaddress this issue, a studywas conducted to evaluate the level of copyright literacy among Library & Information Science(LIS)professionalsin Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Goa, as well as their knowledge and awareness of permitted exceptions for libraries under the copyright act, 1957. The article discusses the significance of author rights and the role of LIS professionals in safeguarding their interests by promoting copyright literacy among the academic community. It includes a review of case laws related to copyright infringement in libraries, providing an international legal perspective on library exceptions under fair dealing. The research findings indicate that most LIS professionals in Goa are knowledgeable about copyright laws and the exemptions available for libraries. The researchers have identified areas where additional education or training may be needed to ensure that copyrighted materials are used responsibly and ethically within library collections.
