Cytotoxic activity of test extracts was performed by a hemolytic assay. Estimation of the antidiabetic properties was explored by α-glucosidase and DPP-IV inhibition assays. The glucose transportation activity of test extracts across the yeast cells was expressed by a glucose uptake assay<strong>. </strong>Non-hemolytic effects of test extracts were shown as lysis per cent less than 15 on RBCs. The inhibition potential of test extracts on α-glucosidase enzyme illustrates that IC<sub>50</sub> values (μg/mL) of <em>C. siamea </em>was 76.33±12.2 and <em>B. monosperma</em> was 77.28±2.02. While the IC<sub>50</sub> values of the acarbose was 36.76±1.55 μg/mL. In addition, the tested extracts showed the ability to inhibit DPP-IV enzyme activity in a concentration-dependent manner. The IC<sub>50</sub> (μg/mL) values of <em>C. siamea, B. monosperma, </em>and the sitagliptin were 117.02±9.73, 103±8.5, and 144.85±13.43, respectively in DPP-IV inhibitory assay. Moreover, the test extracts could transport glucose in yeast cells representing the glucose uptake effectively especially in <em>B. monosperma</em> with a concentration-dependent manner in all tested glucose concentrations. There is a need for safe, reliable, and cost-effective anti-diabetic drugs, and investigating medicinal plants for new anti-diabetic medications is an exciting research field. Thus, the present study examined the <em>in-vitro</em> anti-diabetic activity of ethanolic and aqueous extracts of <em>Flacourtia indica </em>(Burm. F.) Merr (Flacourtiaceae) fruits by different enzyme inhibition assay methods. Alpha-amylase and Alpha-glucosidase are the principal enzymes present in the human body which helps in the digestion of carbohydrates. Inhibition of these enzymes slows down the absorption of glucose and lowers the sugar level in the blood. Both extracts showed potent inhibitory activity against these enzymes in a dose-dependent manner. The highest percentage of inhibition is exhibited by ethanolic extract at a concentration of 100 µg/mL with an IC<sub>50</sub> value of 84.02. The results were compared with the standard drug Acarbose, a competitive inhibitor of both enzymes. The ethanolic extract was subjected to preliminary phytochemical analysis to find out different chemical constituents. It revealed the presence of reducing sugars, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, terpenoids, fatty acids, and steroids. This preliminary study was conducted to investigate the <em>in vitro</em> antibacterial activity of methanolic extract of <em>U. gambir</em> against dental caries-related microflora: <em>Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sobrinus, Lactobacillus casei</em> and <em>Enterococcus faecalis.</em> The methanolic extract of <em>U. gambir</em> in powder form was dissolved and serially diluted in 1% dimethyl sulfoxide. The antibacterial effects of the extract were determined using the broth microdilution technique. A transmission electron microscope (TEM) was used to assess the effects of the extract on the morphology of the bacteria. A 0.12% chlorhexidine (CHX) and Man-Rogosa-Sharpe/brain heart infusion broth were used as positive and negative control respectively. Greatest antibacterial effects were seen on both Streptococci species with the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) values of 1.25 and 5 mg/mL respectively, followed by <em>Enterococcus faecalis</em> (MIC=2.5 mg/mL, MBC=10 mg/mL) and <em>Lactobacillus casei</em> (MIC=7.5 mg/mL, MBC=30 mg/mL) in ascending order. Cell wall damage of all bacteria at their respective MIC value was observed through the TEM analysis. Tukey’s posthoc test showed no statistically significant difference in the antibacterial activity exerted by <em>U. gambir</em> extract and 0.12% CHX, with <em>P</em>&gt; 0.05. The bioactive fraction of <em>J. humile</em> was subjected for GC analysis. The free radical scavenging properties of plant extracts were assessed using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and antibacterial activity was performed by the well diffusion method. The antidiabetic activity was assessed α amylase inhibition assay. The chemical compounds were isolated from the active plant fraction by silica column chromatography, and the collected fractions were analyzed by GC and FTIR. The phytochemical analysis showed that plant extracts were rich sources of secondary metabolites. The <em>in vitro </em>antioxidant activity showed IC<sub>50</sub>&nbsp;ranging from 30.57±0.02 to 155.65±0.10 µg/mL. The promising antioxidant activity was demonstrated by <em>S. wallichii </em>of IC<sub>50</sub> 30.57±0.02 µg/mL and <em>J. humile</em> 35.28±0.54 µg/mL, respectively whereas, the <em>S. ovalifolia</em>, exhibited the moderate antioxidant activity of IC<sub>50 </sub>155.65±0.10 µg/mL. The <em>J. humile </em>showed significant antidiabetic activity of IC<sub>50</sub> 59.4±23.47 µg/mL. The antidiabetic activities exhibited ranged from IC<sub>50</sub> of 77.29±2.05 (<em>S. wallichii </em>to 608.28±71.50 µg/mL (<em>C. rotundus</em>). The <em>R. ellipticus</em> showed maximum ZOI (22 mm) against the <em>Staphylococcus aureus </em>(ATCC 25923), whereas <em>J. humile</em> (20 mm), <em>O. wightiana</em> (18 mm), and <em>G. fragrantissima</em> (16 mm) showed moderate antibacterial activity against the <em>S. aureus</em>. The <em>C. rotundus</em>, <em>J. humile</em>, <em>S. ovalifolia</em>, <em>O. wightiana</em>, and <em>B. asiatica</em> showed promising antibacterial activity against <em>E. coli</em> (ATCC 25922) with ZOI 15, 17, 14, 17, and 18 mm respectively. These findings provide partial scientific support for traditional uses of these medicinal plants against diabetes and infectious diseases. Therefore, the <em>J. humile</em> could be a promising source of natural antidiabetic and antioxidant compounds that may be drug candidates for future drug development. Kakadiya <p>The objective of the present study was to investigate pharmacognostic, phytochemical and evaluate <em>in vitro</em> antioxidant properties of <em>Senecio edgeworthii</em> hook Plant. The study of leaf macroscopic features, microscopic features was undertaken and physicochemical parameters were evaluated using standard procedures as per WHO guidelines. <em>In vitro</em> antioxidant activity of <em>S. edgeworthii</em> plant was determined by application of standard methods. In microscopy of <em>S. edgeworthii</em>, leaf is having Upper epidermis, cuticle, multicellular covering trichomes. The transverse view of the lamina shows a single layer of closely packed palisade cells below the upper epidermis. In powder characteristics analysis, lignified xylem parenchyma, lignified fibres, stomata, epidermis, cork cell, xylem vessels, spiral vessels and trichomes were observed. A low amount of total ash acid insoluble ash and water-soluble ash indicate that the inorganic matter and non-physiological matter such as silica is less <em>S. edgeworthii</em> plant. The estimation of total phenolic content in the examined extracts showed SE-Chloro and SE-alcohol extract contains high phenolic content than SE-Oil and SE-Pet ether. The results of antioxidant evaluation based on the three models (DPPH, H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub>, and NO) used in this study revealed that chloroform and alcohol extract and flower oil of <em>S. edgeworthii</em> plant possess interesting antioxidant activity. The pharmacognostic, phytochemical analysis can contribute to the development of the quality control norms for this species. Present work aims to evaluate differentiation between two species <em>Alternanthera ficoidea</em> and <em>Alternanthera sessilis</em>. Plant samples were collected and authenticated. Powder microscopy, phytochemical, physicochemical, HPTLC photo documentation &amp; fingerprint profiling (<em>n</em>-hexane, successive chloroform, successive ethanol) and HPLC analysis of both samples were performed. Powder microscopic studies of both species were carried out and the characteristic features were captured and documented. Physico-chemical investigation divulged the different ash content of two species. Phytochemical investigation revealed the variance of secondary metabolites in different extracts of the samples. Two carvacrol-derivatives (P1 and P2) have been synthetized using reactions of alkylation by binding alkan groups at the hydroxyl group of carvacrol. NMR analysis was performed for synthetized derivatives to confirm the success of the reactions. Then, cytotoxic activity, against two tumour cell lines (P-815 and MCF-7), and antibacterial activity of carvacrol, P1 and P2 were performed. Cytotoxicity was measured using the colourimetric methyl tetrazolium test (MTT) and antimicrobial activity was measured using the diffusion technique on solid media and the determination of CMI on liquid media. Our results show that chemical modifications made on carvacrol have no effect on its antitumor activity. However, an important decrease of its antibacterial activity was observed, especially for P1. Our results suggest that hydroxyl group at this position of the molecule may be responsible for carvacrol antibacterial activity, while the other parts of the molecule may be responsible for its antitumor activity. Baruah <p>In this study, active compound loaded stable nanoemulsion (surface charge -18 mV) was developed having small diameter (&lt;100 nm) from the plant extract of raw&nbsp;<em>Syzygium aromaticum</em>,&nbsp;<em>Ocimum tenuiflorum&nbsp;</em>and<em>&nbsp;</em>rhizome of&nbsp;<em>Zingiber officinale</em>. The antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of formulated nanoemulsion were analyzed. The nanoemulsion showed good antimicrobial activity against various food poisoning organisms <em>viz.</em> bacteria (<em>Staphylococcus </em><em>aureus </em>and <em>Escherichia</em> <em>coli</em>) and fungi (<em>Candida albicans</em>). For the antioxidant study, two different methods 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2′-Azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic 167 acid) diammonium salt (ABTS) were used, and a satisfactory result achieved (% inhibition for DPPH: 63.64±1.85 and ABTS: 48.36±1.12). The nanoemulsion in combination with a low dose of benzoic acid (200 ppm) is used as a preservative in formulated apple juice. The formulated juice quality was analyzed compared with standard fruit juice during a storage period of 30 days and quality of fruit juice remained good. Through this study, the presence or absence of secondary metabolites was screened and the presence of alkaloids, glycosides, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, terpenoids and tannin was established. The chromatograph of the GC-MS analysis of the methanolic leave extract showed the presence of various compounds mainly 2-Octylcyclopropene-1-heptanol, α-ylangene, 6,10,14,18,22-Tetracosapentaen-2-ol, 3-bromo-2,6,10,15,19,23-hexamethyl-, (all-E)-, (Z)-7-Hexadecenal, 1-Naphthalenemethanol, 1,4,4a,5,6,7,8,8a-octahydro-2,5,5,8a-tetramethyl-, 3-Hexadecyne with highest area percentage. These compounds are recorded for the first time in this plant. The formulation of nanomaterials used in this study included Tween 80 (as surfactant), ethanol (as co-surfactant), and eucalyptus essential oil (as internal phase), in water. To prepare the nanoemulsion, the mixtures were sonicated and the size of resulting nanoparticles were measured using dynamic light scattering (DLS). Then, the data were modelled using artificial neural networks. The results revealed that high Tween 80 concentration and low essential oil concentration had positive effects on reduction of particle size, while the change in ethanol concentration had no obvious impact on the size. Rheological analysis was performed to determine the rheological properties of semi-refined carrageenans. Experimental design was carried out with Design Expert software to produce and optimize SRC extraction. The software presented 18 treatments based on temperature, cooking time and concentration of KOH. Treatments were prepared for rheometric analysis (i.e., viscosity measurements). Optimization was performed by the software with maximum viscosity. Also, two refined carrageenan extraction methods were performed, and the FTIR and NMR spectra were compared. Barcoding showed similarity values of 96 and 94% using the COI sequence and therbcL sequence, respectively. The optimal treatment included temperature of 77°C, 99 minutes, and 7% concentration of w/v KOH. The highest efficiency was associated with the dialysis method, which was 19%. Based on the rheometric analysis, the SRC solution was introduced as a pseudo plastic Non-Newtonian fluid. The market place for organic products in various fields extends throughout the world on account of increased awareness among consumers of side effects related to protracted use of some synthetic colouring compounds, and therefore the current trend towards healthful biomaterials in products. This work aimed to formulate a natural lipstick from coloured pigments of <em>Nyctanthes arbor-tristis </em>(Night flowering jasmine<em>) </em>flowers. The use of natural colouring pigments in the product would minimize the side effects. This study focused on the extraction of colourant from <em>N. arbor-tristis </em>flowers and optimizing the formula for the preparation of lipstick and evaluating it. The authors compiled and reviewed the nutrient composition of edible snail meat based on the available scientific literature. The protein, fat, and ash content of snail meat were found to be 14.0, 1.4 and 2.1% on the basis of fresh matter respectively. Comparable protein content with conventional foods of animal origin along with the presence of all essential amino acids and less carbon footprint makes the snail meat a sustainable food source. Moreover, less fat content but higher proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids, and considerable presence of minerals with nutritional importance especially calcium, zinc, and iron could exhibit human nutritional benefits. The ailment is characterized by an exaggerated immune response to environmental triggers including pollen, moulds, ragweed, dirt mites, dust, etc. within the nasal mucosa, ultimately leading to gene environment interaction which elevate the IgE level in the nasal mucosa, and ultimately infection of the nasal cavity. The major signs and symptoms of AR include rhinorrhea, sneezing, eye itching, postnasal drip, cough, nasal obstruction, and fatigue due to nasal discomfort. Various studies reported 20-30% occurrence of the disease and majority of them are inclined towards allopathic medication for instant relief. Since these drugs lead to unenviable side effects in the long term, it is of utmost importance to search for alternative mode of medication with lower side-effects. The use of traditional medication in the form of various herbal plants and their mixture have proved to be effective in the management of symptoms for asthma and AR. Their efficiencies have been restrained successfully in various reports. The disease causes morbidity and mortality of arterial and venous thrombosis which can result in acute infraction and deep vein thrombosis. Majority of clotting factors are serine proteases and are present as precursors of proteolytic enzymes known as zymogens that circulate in inactivated forms but get activated in response to injury in blood vessels. The serine proteases are involved in coagulation, anticoagulation, and fibrinolysis. Thrombin and fibrin are the main key therapeutic target for the treatment of thrombosis. Commercially available antithrombotic and thrombolytic drugs are known to be associated with serious side effects like bleeding, hypertension, and haemorrhage therefore natural products have been suggested as best replacement of synthetic antithrombotic and thrombolytic drugs with less side effects for human health. The uses of plants in the indigenous cultures of developing countries are numerous and diverse. In a developing country, 65% population is dependent upon traditional medicinal system. The plant based traditional medicinal system play an important role in curing the health from various diseases all over the world. The present review reveals the updated information regarding the ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry, and pharmacological properties of an invasive plant <em>Sonchus asper</em> (L.) Hill. For this study, an extensive and intensive field survey by visiting the nearby villages of Nainital district was carried out along with detailed literature survey. Multitudinous ethnic properties and pharmacological study may help in development of new drug for the treatment of cancer and infectious diseases from this plant. Besides antidiabetic medicines, herbal remedies such as walnut leaves have long been utilized to decrease blood sugar and blood lipid levels in PWDs. Hence, this study aimed to investigate the impact of walnut leaf on the lipid and glucose profiles of PWDs through a systematic review and meta-analysis. To gain access to the primary empirical studies, domestic and international databases were searched using MeSH keywords. The databases included Barakat Gostar, SID, Magiran, IranDoc, PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane, International Standard Randomized Controlled Trial Number (ISRCTN), International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP), and Clinical (a clinical trial registration system). Data analysis was performed within Stata 14 software. The <em>P</em>-value was considered <em>P</em> &lt;0.05. In 4 studies with a sample size of 101 individuals, which were published between 2014 and 2018, post-test scores of the treatment and control groups pointed out that the difference between insulin and FBS levels was statistically significant. The FBS level was higher in the control group than in the treatment group. However, their insulin level was lower than those in the treatment group. The difference between the levels of HbA1C, cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL, HDL, AST, ALT, ALP, and creatinine in the control and treatment groups was not statistically significant. The pre and post-test scores of the treatment group were compared. The levels of FBS, HbA1C, and LDL decreased significantly, while the patients' insulin levels increased remarkably. No noticeable correlation was observed in other lipid profiles.
